Hermes Fulfilment expands Haldensleben location
Hermes Fulfilment GmbH is extending its facilities in Haldensleben, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Reiner Haseloff, Minister of Economic Affairs for the German State of Saxony-Anhalt, and Dieter Urbanke, Managing Director of Hermes Fulfilment, laid the foundation stone for a new reserve and client-specific warehouse at Südhafen industrial park. From September onwards the merchandise that has been moved from Hamburg to Haldensleben is to be stored in these facilities. Hermes Fulfilment also plans to operate its client-specific warehousing services from this site. Until now the merchandise of external clients such as Seidensticker, Wolford and Tom Tailor has been stored, picked and packaged at the original premises in Haldensleben. Covering an area of 30,000 square metres, the reserve and client-specific warehouse in Südhafen is part of a €100m investment package. This package includes the construction of an automatic storage bin warehouse for returned goods with 160.000 bin locations and of a 12,000 square metre pallet warehouse at the Hamburger Straße distribution centre, which was first set up in 1994. The company also plans to build a multi-channel facility to respond to the logistic needs of online, catalogue and store based retail formats. The expansion of the Haldensleben site will create about 360 new jobs. Hermes Fulfilment already employs some 1,800 people, making it the region’s largest employer.
